"If you don't give my football back I'm gonna get my dad on you, I only kicked it over your fence and broke a silly gnome or two" are the first wonderful string of lyrics to greet your ears on Jim Noir's debut EP 'Eany Meany'. A song so entrenched in early sixties psychedelic modness that you are likely to buy a pair of Sta-prest trainers and pipette drops of acid directly into your eyes within seconds of listening. Then comes 'Tower of love' which starts off like a missing Pet Sounds track before turning into a full on Joe Loss anthem conjuring up images of snooty French waiters serving lobster to swinging London scenesters. Next track 'Tell Me What to Do' however is for all sense and purposes the Beta Band singing Tax-Man (but betterer). 'I can't See' is a short yet seamless piece of harmonic Wilson-esque magic. The EP is rounded off with 'Eany Meany 2' a rather more modern sounding number that still manages to fit in with the sixties production sound with it's Roy Budd soundtrack guitar and Simian-y vocals. If you are going to get stuck in a time-warp this is probably the best era to choose from provided you have both the talent to write a decent lyric and the ability to play your instruments as well as all your heroes. Mr Noir it seems is fully competent pulling off both these feats with the same style and panache as his influences. Proper good.
